2 young kids killed in East Jerusalem fire; mother, third child seriously hurt
Muhammad, 6, and Nasma, 3, al-Naghal killed when their apartment in Ras al-Amoud goes up in flames; initial probe finds open coil heater was placed next to sofa

Two young children were killed Tuesday in an apartment fire in East Jerusalem, while their brother and mother suffered serious injuries, medical officials said.
Firefighters, medics and police were called to the scene in the capital’s Ras al-Amoud neighborhood, locating the four and extracting them from the burning, smoke-filled ground-floor apartment, after they inhaled smoke.
Magen David Adom medics took them to Hadassah Mount Scopus hospital, where they determined that a three-year-old girl and a six-year-old boy were in critical condition and showing no vital signs, and a four-year-old boy and the mother, aged around 50, were unconscious and in serious condition.
Doctors at the hospital ended up pronouncing the deaths of the critically hurt children.
They were named by Hebrew media as Muhammad al-Naghal, 6, and Nasma al-Zaghal, 3.
Police officers were investigating the cause of the blaze, aided by an investigator from the Israel Fire and Rescue Service. Initial findings indicated that the cause was an open coil heater that was placed close to a sofa made of fabric, causing it to catch fire.
