Channel 10’s directorial board on Tuesday fired 150 staffers, about a third of its manpower, effective immediately.

The board also ordered further budgetary adjustments in order to balance the books toward the end of the current fiscal year.

The union representing Channel 10’s employees rejected the firings, threatening collective action. “We will black out the screens, if a single employee is fired. We call on the workers not to accept the dismissal letters and not to report to hearings,” a union statement read.

The channel is deep in debt and has been under threat of closure for several months.
