Jerusalem rabbi gets 20 months for using fake ID to dupe 12 women into sleeping with him

The Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court on Thursday sentenced a Jerusalem rabbi to 20 months in prison following his conviction in January 2025 on 12 counts of scamming women into having sexual relations with him, as well as on charges of providing false information via computer.

Between 2016 and 2023, Rabbi Yosef Paryzer, an American citizen who is married with children, used a fake identity to meet women on dating sites and have sexual relations with them under false pretenses.

He used the alias “Jack Segal” on dating sites, posing as a secular, single man. He gave false details about his life to the victims, with whom he engaged in concurrent, months-long relationships.

According to the conviction, he falsely told the women that his relationship with them was serious and exclusive in order to get them to give him intimate pictures and videos of themselves and to have sex with them.

He pleaded guilty to defrauding 12 women in this manner on the day the women were set to begin testifying.

The prosecution originally requested a two-year prison sentence. During the arguments, Rinat Ben Yaakov of the Jerusalem District Attorney’s Office stated, “This is a real hunter, who ensnared a large number of women.”

She described Paryzer as “someone who has caused many women emotional suffering.”

In the final arguments before the sentencing, Paryzer apologized for his actions.

In handing down the sentence, Judge Amir Shaked said he issued a more lenient sentence because Paryzer pleaded guilty, sparing many of the complainants from having to testify in court, and because he entered a rehabilitation program after being exposed.

“This is a violation of a woman’s autonomy,” Shaked said regarding Paryzer’s deceit. He said the sentence was “a message that encourages women to file a complaint.”

Paryzer was also ordered to pay between NIS 5,000 (nearly $1,600) and NIS 15,000 (nearly $4,800) to each of his victims.
