Kushners cut through politics, chicken with bipartisan dinners
Jared and Ivanka host lawmakers from both sides of the aisle at DC home in attempt to break through legislative gridlock

With Washington’s politics stuck in perpetual partisan muck, Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump have reportedly begun trying to solve issues by inviting the swamp in for some down-home cooking.
The kosher-keeping couple have recently hosted a series of dinners for Democratic and Republican lawmakers at their home in Washington, DC, as part of an effort to forge bipartisan support on a number of policy items, according to a report Sunday.
The most recent dinner at their residence in the capital’s Kalorama neighborhood focused on criminal justice reform and included Republican Senator Mike Lee of Utah, as well as Democratic senators Dick Durbin of Illinois, Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, the Axios news site reported.
Criminal justice reform is one of a number of issues US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Kushner has been tasked with handling, with his portfolio also including streamlining government bureaucracy and the Israeli-Palestinian peace process. Ivanka is also a senior White House adviser.
While the president promised to “drain the swamp” of DC politics and has repeatedly had public feuds with lawmakers from both parties, his daughter and son-in-law are apparently trying to move ahead on issues that are above partisan politics, according to the report.
Axios said the dinners have been taking place for months and focused on a number of different matters.
Earlier this year, the couple hosted several members of Trump’s cabinet for a Shabbat dinner.
Trump’s envoy for Middle East peace Jason Greenblatt has also hosted officials at his home for Shabbat dinner, namely Israeli lawmaker and former peace negotiator Tzipi Livni.
