90% of complaints against police are dismissed, comptroller finds
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleSome 90 percent of complaints against police were dismissed by the Justice Ministry’s Police Internal Investigations Department in 2015 without charge, while “thousands” of allegations — primarily of excessive force — are shelved without even preliminary review, according to a state comptroller report published today.
State Comptroller Yosef Shapira also criticizes the department, founded in 1992 to independently investigate alleged police misdeeds, for failing to hand over materials to the Israel Police’s Disciplinary Department when criminality is ruled out.
