Abbas: Stop the violence now, discuss terms later

PA President Mahmoud Abbas, in a TV interview, says he want to see an end to the bloodshed. The balance of power favors Israel, he adds.

What he advocates, according to a Channel 2 report of the interview, is that the fire from both sides has to stop now, and conditions to concretize the ceasefire can be finalized afterwards.

The Israeli TV channel’s analyst Ehud Yaari says Abbas seems to be presenting himself as a potential mediator. Unlike other analysts, and in contrast to the thrust of PM Netanyahu’s comments earlier this evening, Yaari says he believes this conflict is closer to its conclusion that most people think.
