Defense minister backs Gaza ground operation

Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon supports a limited ground operation into the Gaza Strip, sources close to the defense minister told Channel 10.

According to the report, if Israel were to pursue a ground incursion, it would focus on targets that cannot be destroyed from the air, specifically Hamas’s infamous tunnels near its border with Israel.

At the end of a security cabinet meeting Thursday night, which lasted over seven hours, Ya’alon said that, to this point in Operation Protective Edge, Hamas and other terrorist organizations in Gaza have been dealt a serious blow.

He added that Israel would continue to “hit” Hamas and to “make it pay a heavy price.”
