False police warnings circulate on WhatsApp

False police and IDF warnings urging citizens to exercise caution are circulating on WhatsApp.

In a statement, police deny the warnings came from them, and stress that in the event of danger “we will formally update you on our Facebook page or through the media.”

A kidnapping of a ten-year-old was reported near Modiin, sparking a police search that had a helicopter scouting the area and Border Police roadblocks set up.

However, according to the local Modiin website, the call was a false alarm. There have been a number of similar incidents in past days, which have turned out to be baseless rumors upon investigation.
