A group of blackmailers from the Gaza Strip have extorted dozens of Israeli youth over social media, Channel 12 reports.
The young Israelis thought they were chatting with other people around their age.
The Gaza-based scammers guided the conversation into sexual matters and asked for intimate photos and videos, then blackmailed the Israelis, demanding they transfer them money.
The scammers threatened to release sensitive material if the victims did not pay money in the “sextortion” scheme, Channel 12 reports.
“I swear to you. I’ll humiliate you everywhere. I have everything on you. Take your time,” one of the messages said. “I’m going to spread all of your pictures and videos on Instagram and TikTok everywhere.”
The criminal group managed to extort hundreds of thousands of shekels, the report says.
