Germany’s Lufthansa airline group says it is preparing to gradually resume flights to and from Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport from June 1, having suspended them due to the US-Israel war against Iran and heightened regional tensions.
Initially, just Austrian Airlines and Lufthansa Cargo will restart their operations to and from Tel Aviv on June 1.
SWISS, ITA Airways, and Lufthansa are currently planning to resume flights as early as July 1, with Eurowings expected to return to Tel Aviv by mid-July.
Flight operations to Tel Aviv by Brussels Airlines will remain suspended through October 24.
“This decision was made after a comprehensive security and safety assessment,” Lufthansa says in a statement.
Lufthansa’s announcement comes a day after the European Union’s Aviation Safety Agency softened a recommendation to avoid the airspace over Israel and other parts of the region.
