Hamas threatens to fire rockets deeper into Israel

Hamas’s armed wing says in a statement that airstrikes on houses in the Gaza Strip are a “red line,” and that if Israel doesn’t cease it will extend the range of its rocket fire. The group claims responsibility for firing a rocket at the southern town of Ofakim.

Moments earlier air raid sirens sounded across southern Israel. Unconfirmed reports indicate that five rockets exploded in open areas of southern Israel’s Eshkol region, one hit near the southern city of Kiryat Malachi and one in the Merhavim region of southern Israel. No injuries or damage are being reported.
