IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari says the military is “strengthening” its security preparations ahead of Ramadan, due to begin tomorrow, and is readying for “all possible scenarios in all arenas.”
The preparations come as Israel accuses Hamas of toughening its stance on a potential hostage deal, meaning the Gaza Strip will likely not see a deal to pause fighting before the Muslim holy month begins.
“Hamas prevents an agreement and acts contrary to what was suggested by the mediators,” Hagari says in an evening press conference.
He says that according to Israeli intelligence, “Hamas is stockpiling equipment and food for its members, while the population of Gaza is having trouble getting supplies.”
“By refusing an agreement, Hamas prevents a humanitarian ceasefire and continues to increase the suffering of the Gazan population,” Hagari adds.
