Construction work on Jerusalem’s light rail lines and other infrastructure projects will be paused from Monday, October 6, through Tuesday, October 14, in order to accommodate visitors and residents during the Sukkot holiday, the municipality says.
All work will be stopped except at several sites where work is being carried out in closed areas without disrupting traffic, the municipality says.
Many of the most popular areas of the city, including King George Street and Emek Refaim, are currently undergoing significant roadwork, much of it related to the development of the Blue Line of the city’s light rail network, which is expected to ease traffic in the city significantly when it opens in 4-5 years.
The city hopes that putting these projects on hold will ease travel for hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the country who visit Jerusalem for the holiday, says Director General of the Jerusalem Municipality Ariella Rajwan.
