Prime Minister Yair Lapid interviews major generals Eyal Zamir and Herzi Halevi, the two final candidates for the next Israeli military chief, his office says.

According to the PMO, Lapid met separately with the two for an “in-depth conversation, and heard from them about their security worldview.”

Zamir is a former IDF deputy chief of staff currently serving as a research fellow at the Washington Institute think tank, and Halevi is the current deputy chief of staff.

Defense Minister Benny Gantz is expected to make his decision in the coming weeks, once Lapid has given his input on the matter.
