Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu speaks to the father of Yuval Castleman, about whose killing he said “that’s life,” and describes him as a “hero” for saving multiple lives during a terror attack before he was shot by a soldier.
“Yuval Castleman is a hero of Israel. Yuval saved many lives in an act of supreme heroism, but unfortunately a terrible tragedy happened there – the man who saved them was himself killed. This matter must be thoroughly investigated,” the premier says in a statement.
“Today I spoke with Moshe, Yuval’s father. The salt of the earth, a Zionist family, a wonderful family. I and the entire nation mourn with them over the death of a hero of Israel,” Netanyahu says.
Castleman shot the perpetrators of a deadly terror attack in Jerusalem on Friday, before he himself was shot by an Israel Defense Forces soldier.
Graphic video from the scene showed Castleman throw away his gun, fall on his knees and raise his hands in the air while shouting “Don’t shoot” as the soldiers approached him. He was then shot again by one of them.
Castleman’s family has called his death an “execution.”
