New homes erected in evacuated settlement in preparation for repopulation this summer

Prefabricated homes have been erected in the previously evacuated northern West Bank settlement of Kadim, preparing the way for the settlement to be repopulated later this summer.

Cranes moved the prefabricated homes into position yesterday, after land was prepared for the new structures, access roads to Kadim and internal streets were paved, and electricity, water and sewage infrastructure were completed for the settlement.

Kadim was one of four settlements in the northern West Bank that were evacuated under the 2005 disengagement plan, which also saw Israel dismantle all its settlements in Gaza and pull out of the Strip.

Under the current government, two of those four West Bank settlements – Homesh and Sa Nur – have now been re-established and repopulated, with Kadim and Ganim set to be the third and fourth later this summer.

The government also plans to build another 15 settlements in the northern West Bank region as part of its efforts to massively expand the West Bank settlement project and thwart the establishment of a Palestinian state.

“We are erasing the disgrace of the expulsion from Kadim. The first trailers are the beginning of a large settlement, with thousands of residents, with children and with educational institutions, to the glory of the State of Israel,” says head of the Samaria Regional Council Yossi Dagan, who has helped advance the expansion of settlements in the region.

“Instead of four settlements there will be 19 settlements, and with God’s help many more beyond that… Those who did not want citizens of the State of Israel here, those who did not want this area to have Jews, will get 30 times, 40 times and 50 times more,” says Dagan, who himself was evacuated from Sa Nur in 2005.
