Police arrest 5 settlers suspected of attacking Palestinian shepherd’s home, slaughtering sheep

Police have arrested five settlers suspected of breaking into a Palestinian shepherd’s home, slaughtering several of his sheep and attacking residents in the southern West Bank overnight.

Security forces were dispatched to Samu, a town in the South Hebron Hills, after receiving reports that a group of young men from the nearby settlement of Susya were raiding the village. The attackers were seen in security camera footage beating sheep in their pen with what appeared to be large metal poles, before the video was suddenly cut after one of the men manages to disarm the surveillance device.

In footage taken after the incident, one of the sheep is seen lying bloodied and lifeless on the ground.

According to Arabic outlets, the flock’s owner is named Mahmoud al-Daghameen. The assailants reportedly threw stones at his home, shattering its windows.

Settlers injured three Palestinians with pepper spray in the attack. They were taken to a hospital for medical treatment, according to the IDF and police.

Police say they searched a nearby compound belonging to the suspects in wake of the attack and found “extensive evidence.” They detained the five suspects and transferred them for interrogation.
