Police say checkpoint stabber was bus passenger being searched; has been shot dead

Police say the assailant who stabbed a female Border Police officer at the Tunnels Checkpoint near Jerusalem was shot dead.

According to police, a bus driving from the West Bank to Jerusalem was stopped at the checkpoint, and the passengers were taken off the bus for questioning to ensure that they had legal entry permits.

One of the passengers who was being questioned lunged at a Border Police officer with a screwdriver and stabbed her.

Other officers at the scene opened fire at the assailant, killing him.

Police say they found a knife and other suspicious items on the assailant’s body.
