Registration for schools in war-ravaged northern city plummets

The number of children registered to start kindergarten in the war-ravaged northern city of Kiryat Shmona has dropped from 1,000 children in 2023 to 600, according to Channel 12 news.
Only eight first-grade classes are expected to open, compared to 13 classes that opened before the war began on October 7, 2023, when Hezbollah opened fire on Israel in support of Hamas.
Out of 300 middle school students, only 200 are expected to return to the Kiryat Shemona school system.
There are 55 new students enrolled in the school system for next year, all in the national religious public school system.
