Some 30 rockets are fired from the Gaza Strip in a major upsurge. No injuries or damage are reported.
Residents in southern Israel are asked to stay in their shelters until further notice.
The rocket fire extends some 40 kilometers into Israel, including the Ashdod, Ashkelon, Kiryat Malachi and Gan Yavneh areas. Local councils in some of these areas are canceling kids’ summer day camp programs for tomorrow unless the facilities are reinforced against rocket attack.
Most of the rockets fall in open areas, but Iron Dome intercepts some rockets heading for residential areas.
The IDF has deployed Iron Dome and other measures to counter a possible further expansion of the Gaza rocket range to central Israel, Channel 2 reports.
