Teen suspected of assaulting Arab bus driver to be brought before judge

A 16-year-old suspected of brutally beating an Arab bus driver with a broom over the weekend will be brought before a judge today.

The suspect and other teens allegedly assaulted the driver, Abdallah Dwayyat, at around midnight on Saturday after he stopped at a traffic light near Jerusalem’s Central Bus Station.

When Dwayyat heard a loud noise coming from one of the vehicle’s wheels, he exited the bus to check the issue. He was then ambushed by the suspect and his accomplices, who hit him with a broom and a large rock. Dwayyat was hospitalized with injuries to his head and arms.

The suspect was located and arrested last night by Jerusalem police, law enforcement says. Police will bring him today to court with a request to extend his remand.
