The UK Jewish community umbrella organisation slams a UN report that accused Israel of committing apartheid against the Palestinians, calling it a “shameful exercise in distortion, delegitimization and propaganda.”
The UN Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia — an agency based in Beirut, Lebanon, and composed of 18 Arab member states, including what is identified as the State of Palestine — released the report Wednesday. In its conclusion, the report says it “establishes, on the basis of scholarly inquiry and overwhelming evidence, that Israel is guilty of the crime of apartheid.”
Board of Deputies Senior Vice President Richard Verber said: “This latest report on Israel from an obscure UN agency is a shameful exercise in distortion, delegitimization and propaganda. It is wholly unacceptable to singularly deny the Jewish people the right to self-determination, let alone spread barefaced lies about the situation faced by Israel’s citizens today. We call on the governments of UN Member States to condemn publicly this outrageous ‘report.'”
