US said to renew Navy operation to guide ships through Strait of Hormuz

The United States has renewed its initiative for the Navy to help guide ships through the Strait of Hormuz, The Wall Street Journal reports, citing unnamed US military officials.

Dubbed “Project Freedom,” the operation was frozen earlier this month 36 hours after it began.

Now, as US-Iran talks on potentially extending the ceasefire and reaching a broader deal reach a focal point, the report says the US Navy plans over the coming days to help about a dozen vessels, including supertankers and container ships, cross the vital waterway used for oil shipping.

It says a Greek supertanker carrying two million barrels of crude oil has already been guided through the strait.
