A man was found dead on Thursday, apparently of foul play, in an abandoned building in the city of Lod.

Nidal Sarsour, 30, was declared dead at the scene, with police investigators collecting evidence that reportedly suggests he was shot to death. His body will be taken to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for further examination.

Hebrew media reports said Sarsour had spent time in prison over drug offenses, citing a police assessment that the incident was a criminal underworld hit.

The police district commander ordered cops to continue their increased enforcement activities in the cities of Ramle and Lod, aimed at curbing a continued wave of organized crime.

The incident was the third suspected murder in Lod in two weeks, after two Jewish women were allegedly killed by male relatives or neighbors. There have been six homicides in the city so far this year.

Thursday’s incident is also the 21st suspected murder so far in 2023 in Israel’s Arab community, where leaders have long decried police inaction against rampant violent crime, the Ynet news site reported.
