A man was shot as he walked along a street in Holon Monday night and died of his injuries hours later, in what was apparently an organized crime killing.

The victim was identified as Yossi Shriki, reportedly a known criminal figure in his 30s.

A suspect was arrested in connection with the shooting on Habanim Street in the central city’s Tel Giborim neighborhood.

An initial investigation determined that a passing motorcyclist, who apparently waited in ambush, opened fire on the victim.

Magen David Adom paramedics who arrived at the scene found the man with multiple gunshot wounds to his lower body. He was taken to Wolfson Medical Center in the city where he died of his injuries early Tuesday morning.

Police units swarmed to the area after the shooting and an arrest was made.

Investigators were checking if the suspected gunman had waited outside the victim’s home in ambush, the Hebrew news site Ynet reported.

According to Ynet, the victim had in the past been convicted of violent crimes, and property and drug offenses. Although never incarcerated, he had done long stints of community service, the report said.
