Deposed Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak may walk free from prison in three weeks’ time, less than a year after he was sent to prison for the deaths of protesters during the 2011 Egyptian revolution.

Mubarak could go free on April 14 if he’s not found guilty of additional charges to those that landed him in jail last year, Egyptian Justice Minister Ahmed Mekki said Sunday in an interview on Egypt’s al-Mehwar TV.

Mubarak was found guilty by an Egyptian court in 2012 for his role in the deaths of some 850 protesters during the 18-day uprising that removed him from office. The court sentenced him to life imprisonment.

The verdict was overturned in January 2013, however, and a new trial is set to begin in April.

Mubarak, 84, was the president of Egypt for 30 years until he was ousted in February 2011 by popular protests. He suffered from serious health issues following his conviction last year and was reported to have been close to death. The current state of his health is unknown.
