JTA — A pro-Israel lecturer from Montreal found the words “Heil Israel” scrawled on his office door.
The paraphrased Nazi slogan was scrawled Tuesday on the door of the office of Julien Bauer, a political-science professor at the Université du Québec à Montréal, according to the Montreal Gazette.
“You don’t need much intellectual capacity to think that there’s an axis of evil,” the vandals wrote in a possible reference to Bauer’s recent criticism of anti-Israel activists as “not having a high intellectual capacity.”
One of Bauer’s colleagues, Normand Baillargeon, wrote on the blog Voir Montreal that Bauer had said those who protested against Israel people are “racist” and “serving evil.”
The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs condemned the act. Bauer said he had received an email from the department head saying the incident was “unacceptable.”

“There are all sorts of acts of intimidation against Jewish professors who declare their solidarity with Israel,” said David Ouellette, associate director of public affairs for the Centre. “I am confident the investigation of UQAM’s security will find the culprits,” he said.
