Israel’s Military Police has launched an investigation into suspicions that a soldier who took part in operations in the northern West Bank gave non-military personnel classified information.
According to the suspicions, the soldier transferred information on police activity he had seen to right-wing activists, thereby putting security officials at risk.
The IDF said it took a “grave” view of the transfer of information by soldiers to unauthorized persons, and would “act swiftly to punish” those who do so.
In April last year, three residents of the West Bank settlement of Bat Ayin and a Jerusalem resident were arrested on suspicion of receiving classified military information regarding planned arrests of right-wing activists. The alleged provider of the documents was an IDF soldier, Elad Sela, who was apprehended by authorities earlier in 2015.
A military court convicted Sela and sentenced him to 45 months in prison in January.
