Promoted Podcast TAU Global Connection

From the Arab Uprisings to the October 7 War

How do Middle East politics provide further insight into what happened on October 7? And how does this context help us understand where to go from here?

In this episode of The Global Connection, Maria Ellul, an international MA student at Tel Aviv University (TAU) and a member of the student-led movement @IsraelWarStory, interviews Brandon Friedman, the director of research at the Moshe Dayan Center for Middle Eastern and African Studies. Together, they unpack politics in the Middle East and discuss a new international summer program launched by Friedman. The program is titled ‘The Regional Politics of the Middle East: From the 2010-2011 Arab Uprisings to the October 7 War.’

During the episode, they delve into how Arab uprisings have led to the marginalization of the Israeli-Palestinian issue, the place of religion in shaping people’s identities in the region, and the roles of Iran and the United States in the Middle East.
