In this powerful episode, we hear the harrowing stories of Mazal, an Ethiopian Israeli Jew who survived the October 7th massacre at the Nova festival, and Remo, a Muslim Bedouin police officer who heroically saved scores of Nova attendees that day.
At one point on that dark day, Mazal realized that Hamas terrorists had tied her legs with ropes and were dragging her across a field in an attempt to kidnap her. Just as they leaned in to check if she was alive, she held her breath. The terrorists left her for dead, but her trauma was far from over. Meanwhile, Remo, who had taken on a security role for the festival, faced an unimaginable battle as he and 35 other officers fought against over 300 terrorists. Remo lost 22 colleagues that day.
Together, Mazal and Remo have embarked on a groundbreaking project called Survived to Tell: Be the Witness, using virtual reality technology to recreate the unimaginable events of that day. They’ve traveled globally to share their stories and raise awareness about the horrors of the massacre, reaching out to politicians, students, and other communities.
Join us as we explore their remarkable journey through survival, international advocacy, and the deep and surprising connection that has developed between them. This episode is a testament to incalculable loss and unyielding determination to ensure that a tragedy like October 7th never happens again.
