A 17-year-old girl was stabbed and seriously injured Saturday morning in the city of Kiryat Malachi, east of Ashdod.

The girl suffered stabbing wounds to her upper body. She was evacuated to Kaplan Medical Center in Rehovot.

Police said the stabbing was criminal and not nationalistic. The girl’s assailant apparently followed her and when she noticed him, stabbed her and fled. Authorities were searching for the attacker.

A Magen David Adom paramedic who treated the girl told Channel 2 news medical teams had found the girl lying conscious in the middle of the road. “Her condition is stable,” he said.
