‘You caused Oct 7’: Bereaved father rebukes Likud minister at Jerusalem campaign stop

Nissim Louk, the father of Shani Louk who was murdered at the Nova festival on October 7, 2023, confronted Transportation Minister Miri Regev this week outside the Mahane Yehuda market in Jerusalem.
In video shared on social media Thursday, Nissim Louk could be seen shouting at Regev, who arrived to campaign for the Likud party primaries on August 17.
“You caused October 7! Shame on you all! Shame on Likud!” Louk exclaimed in the video, which the Walla news site said was filmed on Thursday.
“You don’t know how proud we are [to be in Likud],” Regev responded.
“My daughter Shani Louk was murdered because of you! Shame on you all!” Louk said.
Amid the confrontation, men in the area — identified by Walla as “Likud activists” — begin to challenge Louk, asking what the party had to do with his daughter’s murder.
“Likud funded Hamas!” the bereaved father responded. “You funded Hamas!”

“You’re trash!” said one of the activists through the din, though it was unclear if he had heard what Louk was saying.
When Louk repeated that his daughter was murdered, the activist asked, “What does that have to do with her?” referring to Regev.
Amid the back-and-forth, the activist chided the bereaved father: “Don’t come and make provocations.”
“Are you joking?” Louk responded, again accusing Likud of funding Hamas.
“No, you funded Hamas,” said the activist, pointing his finger at Louk. “You, and Bennett, and Liberman, and Bennett, and Lapid, all of the stupid people!”
Louk then referred to a June 26 cabinet meeting at which the government gave its initial approval for 200 International Stabilization Force troops to enter the Gaza Strip as part of the US-led peace plan there.
The bereaved father characterized that as “an agreement to hand over Gaza to the Muslim Brotherhood.”
“Bibi will determine what happens. Not you, and not me,” the activist responded, referring to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Shani Louk, 22, was among 364 people murdered by terrorists at the Nova music festival when Hamas fighters invaded southern Israel from Gaza on October 7, 2023, in a terror onslaught that started the subsequent war in the Strip.
In shocking footage that circulated on social media amid the onslaught, her body was seen half-naked slung across the back of a pickup truck, surrounded by gunmen and paraded through Gaza.
Israeli commanders recovered Louk’s remains in the Strip seven months later, and they were returned to Israel for burial.
Regev, in response, says she ‘spoke at length’ with Louk
In a statement quoted by Walla, Regev’s office said: “Minister Miri Regev shares in the enormous pain of the families that lost their loved ones in the October 7 massacre, among them the family of Shani Louk.”
“The minister spoke at length with the father, comforted him in his pain, and told him that her daughter, too, is a Nova survivor and that her friends were murdered at the Nova.”
It continued: “At the end of the conversation, the minister promised that she was committed to establishing a national commission of inquiry that will investigate absolutely everything.”
The statement used the word “national” as opposed to “state,” indicating support for the government’s effort to set up a politically appointed probe, rather than a state commission of inquiry, which is the traditional body for investigating major incidents and the only body empowered to subpoena witnesses.
