Police say they are investigating after video circulates online; Jewish community security group says law enforcement taking incident seriously

British police said Friday they were investigating after a video circulated online showed a man in London threatening to behead Jews “one by one.”
The man, who is accompanied by a group of others in the neighborhood of Tower Hamlets, yelled several anti-Israel, pro-Palestinian slogans before saying, “The Jews, you’re going to get beheaded one by one, you dirty Jews.”
The group was talking into a camera near a mosque on Whitechapel Road, and didn’t appear to be harassing a specific group of Jewish people in their area.
“Fuck Israel, big up Palestine, from the river to the sea,” said the man.
Many Israeli officials and Jewish organizations have characterized the phrase “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” as antisemitic and a call for Israel’s destruction.
Another man in the crowd appeared to try to get the man to stop speaking. It was unclear if they were known to one another.

The Shomrim community security group said police were taking the incident “very seriously.”
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson told the BBC that they were “aware” of the video and that “officers have attended the scene and are carrying out urgent inquiries to identify the man involved.
“We understand that incidents like this cause significant concern and we take all reports incredibly seriously. Hate crime of any kind has no place in our communities,” the spokesperson said.
The incident came amid a spate of attacks amid soaring antisemitism in the UK.
The British Jewish community has long accused authorities of not taking strong enough action, particularly in the wake of the deadly Yom Kippur terror attack at a synagogue in Manchester.
Earlier this month, London police announced the creation of a special unit to protect Jews.
The Met said the new “community protection team” will initially comprise 100 extra officers and combine neighborhood policing with “specialist protection and counterterrorism capabilities.”
