Border policemen apprehended four people in the West Bank believed to be on their way to carry out a bomb attack on security personnel Wednesday.
Four Palestinians were arrested at the Salem Checkpoint near the West Bank city of Jenin after personnel manning the post noticed something suspicious with one of the suspects, police said in a statement.
A search of the suspects produced an unspecified number of pipe bombs on their persons and the four were “forcibly” arrested, according to police.
The men later admitted to have planned an attack on security forces after being interrogated by the Shin Bet security agency. Additional military personnel were later dispatched to the area, as sappers neutralized the explosive devices seized from the suspects, the statement said.
“Alertness and quick response of the border guards prevented the attack,” said a border police company commander in the Judea and Samaria division. “We maintain a very high operational preparedness in everything we do, with the understanding that such events can occur at any time and anywhere. We will continue to act decisively to neutralize any security threat.”
