A 24-year-old ultra-Orthodox man was stabbed in the Old City of Jerusalem Sunday evening, near Damascus Gate.

The man was stabbed in the back and suffered light injuries. He was evacuated by paramedics to Jerusalem’s Shaare Zedek Hospital.

The assailant escaped the scene and police were searching the area.

In January a 16-year-old female resident of East Jerusalem attempted to stab a Border Police officer near Damascus Gate. Last July an ultra-Orthodox man was stabbed in the same area. Two residents of East Jerusalem were later arrested in connection with the attack.
