A 14-year-old boy was arrested by officers Sunday, after robbing a convenience store in southern Israel with an axe, police said.

According to police, the masked teen showed up at the store in Ashkelon and began to threaten the cashier with an axe.

Security camera footage of the incident showed the suspect slamming the axe onto a surface in the store, demanding the cashier give him money.

The teen ran out of the store with a handful of cash, before being arrested an hour later.

Police said he attempted to flee from officers by foot, but was detained following a brief chase. The axe used in the incident was also seized.

His remand was extended by one day, due to his young age.
