An 80-year-old woman died Monday in a fire at her Kfar Vradim home in the eastern Galilee region in northern Israel.

Fire crews called to the scene found the woman during a search of the premises.

Magen David Adom medics said when they arrived the woman was slumped on the floor, having apparently succumbed to smoke inhalation.

Medics said the apartment was filled with black smoke and the woman had no vital signs. They were forced to declare her dead at the scene.

The cause of the fire was not immediately clear.
