A 19-year-old Arab Israeli student from the Galilee was stabbed and critically injured in the dormitories of the Arab American University in the West Bank city of Jenin, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society reported Monday, with her father among the suspects in the attack.
The woman, from the village of Uzeir, near Nazareth in the Galilee, was taken to a Jenin hospital.
Palestinian police said several suspects had been detained. Witnesses told the Haaretz newspaper that her father had been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the stabbing.
Recent years have seen several instances of family members attacking young Arab women in suspected honor killings.
One student said that she heard cries from the street from her room in the university dormitories. She saw the injured student running out of the building, screaming for help and a man running after her, who caught hold of her. A crowd gathered and a few moments later she saw the student lying stretched out on the street.

West Bank universities attract thousands of Arab Israelis and the Arab American University in Jenin is particularly well regarded.
We can't do this work alone.
The war with Iran has been draining for all of us in Israel. But when I heard about a high casualty incident – ballistic missile impacts in Arad and Dimona that left nearly 200 people wounded – I drank a cup of coffee, packed a bag, and headed south.
There, I spoke with Shilgit, the head of an after-school program for underprivileged youth. Standing outside her destroyed center, Shilgit said it was a miracle that no children were hurt and spoke about the community coming together in the hours since.
As a Times of Israel reporter, I’m committed to telling stories of resilience like Shilgit’s. But my colleagues and I can't do this alone.
