IDF targets Hezbollah sites in series of airstrikes across Lebanon; 4 said killed

The Israeli Air Force on Thursday carried out a series of airstrikes against Hezbollah targets across Lebanon, the military said, with Lebanese authorities reporting four dead.

The first wave of strikes in the afternoon, carried out by five IAF fighter jets, hit 16 Hezbollah sites in the eastern Beqaa Valley and in northern Lebanon, including a training camp and precision missile manufacturing site, according to the Israel Defense Forces.

In the evening, the IDF said it struck a Hezbollah weapons depot in the Nabatieh area.

Lebanon’s health ministry said that strikes in eastern areas resulted in an initial death toll of two people, with two others killed in the separate Nabatieh strike.

The weapons depot, in the southern town of Arabsalim near Nabatieh, was used by Hezbollah to advance attacks on Israel, the IDF said.

Among those killed in the strike in Arabsalim was Maher Hassan Younis, who was identified in an official “martyr poster” as a member of Hezbollah. An 82-year-old woman, Zainab Musa, was also killed in the strike, Lebanese media reported.

“The Hezbollah terror organization continues to attempt to rebuild terror infrastructure sites across Lebanon, while endangering Lebanese civilians and using them as human shields,” the IDF said, adding that “the presence of the terror infrastructure constitutes a violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon.”

Earlier in the day, the IDF said that Hezbollah operatives had been gathered at the training camp in the Beqaa Valley when it was bombed. The site was used by the terror group to plan attacks against Israel, the military said.

The missile manufacturing site in the same area had been struck by Israeli forces numerous times before.

“The storage of weapons, the presence of terror infrastructure and the conduct of military training against the State of Israel by Hezbollah terrorists constitute a blatant violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon and a threat to the State of Israel,” the military added.

Immediately after Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack on Israel that triggered the Gaza war, Hezbollah began launching rockets and drones at Israel in support of its Palestinian ally.

Months of exchanges escalated into all-out war in September 2024 — including a ground offensive in southern Lebanon — during which Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah and many other top leaders were killed, before a ceasefire was eventually reached.

Under the November 27, 2024, ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, weapons in south Lebanon were to be held only by the state, and the IDF was permitted to act against imminent threats by the terror group. Israel withdrew from all but five strategic points in southern Lebanon.

Since the ceasefire, the IDF has said it has killed over 300 Hezbollah operatives in strikes, hit hundreds of Hezbollah sites, and conducted over 1,000 raids and other small operations in southern Lebanon.

Weakened by the war and still facing regular Israeli strikes, Hezbollah is under internal and international pressure to hand over its weapons, with the Lebanese army having drawn up a plan to disarm it.
