Two pilots were lightly injured when a light plane made an emergency landing in the Mediterranean Sea off the Tel Aviv coast Sunday afternoon, police said.
According to initial reports, the pilot crash-landed the plane near the popular Metzizim Beach after making a distress call saying he had lost control of the aircraft.
The pilot was cleared to make an emergency landing at the coastal Sde Dov airport, but was not able to regain control of the plane.
According to a report on Channel 2, the plane lost one of its two engines moments after it took off from Sde Dov. As the pilot circled back towards the regional airport, he quickly lost altitude and was forced to land in the water.
