ADL chief blasts new NFL policy stifling anthem protests welcomed by Trump
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleAnti Defamation League CEO Jonathan Greenblatt criticizes US President Donald Trump for welcoming a new NFL policy banning kneeling during the singing of America’s National Anthem at the beginning of games.
“No, Mr. President, those who CHOOSE to peacefully protest in support of racial justice should not have to leave the country,” Greenblatt tweets.
“Constructive protest is an essential First Amendment value. Freedom of expression is patriotism. This rhetoric is not.”
The ADL CEO’s comments follow those made by Trump in favor of the new policy on Thursday in which he suggested those who don’t stand maybe “shouldn’t be in the country.”
