Controlled blast set off in evacuated Manchester stadium
Army experts have staged a controlled explosion at Old Trafford stadium on Sunday after a suspect package was found at the Manchester United field ahead of their final game of the season, police say.
A military bomb disposal unit had been dispatched to the stadium to help police after the discovery of the suspicious item in the stands.
The deployment came as two stands at Old Trafford were evacuated shortly before Sunday’s match against Bournemouth was due to kick off.
Sniffer dogs have also been deployed in the stands and on the field.
