Egypt appoints new ambassador to Israel
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleEgypt appointed a new ambassador to Israel, the Foreign Ministry confirms. His name is Hazem Khairat. It is still unclear when he will take up his post in Tel Aviv.
“The Foreign Ministry welcomes the appointment,” spokesperson Emmanuel Nahshon says in a short statement sent to reporters.
Cairo’s last ambassador to Israel, Atef Salem, arrived in Israel in October 2012. He was recalled soon after in the wake of Israel’s Operation Pillar of Defense in Gaza.
Khairat is Egypt’s former permanent representative to the Arab League and a former ambassador to Chile.
