A representative of the family of Oron Shaul, the soldier missing in Gaza since Sunday, says the family does not consider Oron to be dead as long as the IDF does not possess conclusive evidence that he was killed.
Shaul and six other soldiers were in an armored personnel carrier which was hit by an anti-tank missile on Sunday, but while the others have been identified among the remains recovered from the scene, Shaul has not.
“As far as we are concerned, as long as the examinations are not completed, as long as the IDF is still working and there are no conclusive findings on the issue – as far as the family is concerned Oren is not dead,” Rachel Gazit tells reporters. “It’s important for us to say that.”
Gazit’s statement comes shortly after the family was visited by the head of the IDF’s Manpower Division Maj. Gen. Orna Barbivai, who updated the family on the efforts to identify Shaul’s body and emphasized to them that it is highly unlikely that he is alive.
