Former general, minister Elazar Stern makes widely expected jump to Yashar

Gadi Eisenkot’s Yashar party announces the addition of Elazar Stern, a longtime lawmaker who left Yesh Atid last week and had been widely expected to join the former general’s new faction.
Stern “comes with rich experience as a minister, Knesset member and IDF general,” Eisenkot says of the newest addition to his electoral slate. “Over the years he has been an outspoken voice for universal service, a people’s army and statesmanship.”

Stern, a former head of the IDF’s Manpower Directorate, was first elected to the Knesset in 2013 as part of the now-defunct Hatnua party. In 2021, while serving as intelligence minister for Yesh Atid, he came under fire for comments suggesting that he had ignored sexual harassment complaints while in the military.
Stern announced on August 14 that he was resigning from Yesh Atid, which has merged into the B’Yachad party, and had indicated in recent interviews that he was likely to join Yashar.
