French presidency vote turnout 26.4% at midday, slightly up from 1st round

Turnout for the French presidential run-off stands at 26.4 percent at midday on Sunday, down nearly two percentage points from the same time in the second round of the presidency race of 2017, the interior ministry said.

But participation was above the 25.5% seen at midday in the first round of April 10, when President Emmanuel Macron and his far-right challenger Marine Le Pen advanced to the run-off, which several polls have suggested could see around one in four voters refuse to cast a ballot.
