The funeral procession for slain Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh is underway in Doha.
Mourners line up for funeral prayers inside Doha’s Imam Muhammad bin Abdul Wahhab Mosque, while others pray outside on mats in temperatures as high as 44 degrees Celsius (111 degrees Fahrenheit).
Draped in a Palestinian flag, his casket is carried briefly into the mosque before leaving again for burial in Lusail, north of the Qatari capital.
Many Doha mourners are dressed in crisp white traditional robes, others in street clothes. But most wear scarves that combine the Palestinian flag with a checkered keffiyeh pattern with the words “Free Palestine” emblazoned on them in English.
Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan are among the officials attending the funeral.
The ceremony is also attended by the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, former Emir Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, and foreign minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
