Group to appeal ‘shameful’ plea deal for not blocking Deri’s return to Knesset

The Movement for Quality Government in Israel says it will appeal to the High Court of Justice against the plea deal Shas party leader Aryeh Deri inked with prosecutors.
The plea agreement, in which Deri admitted to a pair of tax offenses and will resign from the Knesset, does not bar the Shas chief from returning to office.
“It can’t be that a public figure who committed offenses of this type can return in the future to public positions,” the group is quoted as saying by Army Radio.
It denounces the plea deal as “shameful.”
