The UAE’s representative addressing the UN Security Council monthly session on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict pans Israeli policies in the West Bank and East Jerusalem in criticism that has been exceedingly rare since the two countries normalized relations in August 2020.
This is the first monthly session that the UAE has joined since it became a member of the Security Council in January.
The UAE representative notes with concern Israeli demolitions in the West Bank and East Jerusalem which have displaced hundreds of Palestinians.
He also urges Israel to act with caution in Sheikh Jarrah where dozens of Palestinian families face looming evictions. An Israeli court yesterday ordered that the most imminent eviction of the Palestinian Salem family be delayed indefinitely.
“In conclusion, I reiterate the UAE’s firm commitment… to achieving the independence of a sovereign Palestinian state based on the border for June 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital,” the UAE representative says.
