Iran summons British ambassador over ‘baseless’ claim it is behind journalist’s 2024 stabbing
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleIran’s Foreign Ministry has summoned Britain’s ambassador in Tehran to protest against what it calls “baseless accusations” that Tehran is involved in security-related activities in Britain, state media reports.
The move follows Britain’s decision to summon Iran’s charge d’affaires in London on Tuesday after two Romanian nationals were jailed over the 2024 stabbing of a British-Iranian journalist. Britain said the attack was carried out on behalf of the Iranian state, an assertion Tehran has rejected.
The ministry’s Director General for Western Europe Alireza Yousefi hands the ambassador a written protest note, accusing London of “deflection” and urging it to stop hosting what Tehran described as “terrorist networks” targeting Iran.
